Opportunities and the growth board

How every scan turns visibility gaps into scored opportunities across articles, threads, listings and outreach, and how the score and the brief work.

From scan to board

After every scan, Recited reads the fresh answers and turns every gap it finds into a scored opportunity on Growth > Opportunities. The board covers every kind of work the engines respond to, not only articles: a page to publish on your site, a Reddit or forum thread to join, a directory listing to update, or a page on someone else's site to get added to. Instead of staring at dashboards wondering what to do, you get one board with the evidence attached to each card.

Where the cards come from

DetectorWhat it catchesThe move
Topic articlesEvery prompt in a topic that you lose or only half-win, folded into one article per topicWrite the article
Pages that beat youA specific page cited in answers where competitors appear and you do notYour own version, a pitch, a reply or a listing, depending on who owns the page
Threads and listingsReddit and forum threads and directory profiles the engines lean onJoin the thread, update the listing
Unowned researchQuestions with real demand that no brand has claimed yetWrite the article

Who owns the cited page decides the action. A competitor's comparison gets your own version, because nobody adds you to their own ranking. A third party's roundup gets a short pitch to be added. A thread gets a reply. A directory profile gets fresh listing copy. Homepages, tool pages, help centres and videos are dropped rather than dressed up as work.

How scoring works

Each opportunity gets a priority from three judgments:

  • Impact: how much winning this would matter, driven by the prompt's demand, how many prompts are affected and how many competitors are riding the gap.
  • Winnability: how realistic winning is. Competitor pressure counts against it, and so does entrenchment: if the citations behind a prompt are all sources you can never appear on, content alone is unlikely to flip it.
  • Effort: how much work the move would take.

The three combine into a 0 to 100 priority, shown as High, Medium or Low on the card. Only opportunities that clear a floor are kept, and a few slots are always held for threads and listings so that big publisher pages do not bury the cheapest wins. The list stays short on purpose; a backlog of everything is a backlog of nothing.

The brief

Open a card and you get an editor's brief written from its own evidence: which prompts it answers, who is cited instead of you, the page to beat, a two-sentence summary of what to make, why it was flagged, the angle that earns the citation, and a working outline built from the questions the engines searched while answering. Briefs are drafted for the top cards after each scan and on first open for the rest.

The target answer

Article cards also show what we want the AI to say if you win: a concrete target answer and positioning. Recited is allowed to say no here. When the honest assessment is that content alone probably will not win a prompt, the card says so instead of inventing a claim. Trust that signal; those prompts are usually better served by the outreach and listing cards, or by Missing citations.

Your state survives

Opportunities refresh after every scan, but your decisions stick. Dismissed cards stay dismissed, cards you are working on keep their status, and published ones remain linked to their articles. The refresh updates scores and evidence; it does not reset your work. Cards the detectors stop finding are retired so a stale mistake never sits on the board forever.

Acting on one

Articles start from the card and open in the editor as they are written; see writing articles. Replies, listing copy and pitches are drafted onto the card itself for you to review, then you post or send them from your own accounts. Recited never writes to Reddit, a directory or an inbox on your behalf. Mark the card done and the next scan measures whether the answers moved.

Opportunities also surface where the context makes them useful: the Overview shows the top few, the Competitors page shows related ones, and prompt rows offer a write action directly.
